Charlene
Johnson is in
charge of our church choir and leads them in
special music every Sunday. The choir
practices at 9:30 on Sunday morning and 5:00
on Sunday evening. Charlene is also charged
with securing the special music prior to the
sermon in the Sunday services. She
skillfully rotates the music among the
twenty plus soloists, duets, and trios that
are actively involved in this musically
blessed church. Charlene provides the high
soprano voicing for various duets and trios
as special music; and is the wife of deacon
Steve Johnson, who works in construction.

Jana Raines
is actually in charge of the
service during the congregational singing
and radio broadcast introduction. She
carefully and prayerfully chooses music for
the church congregation to sing, balanced
between "traditional" and "praise and
worship" styles. She has a magnificent solo
voice and is in demand to sing at local
church all over the area. Jana's
personality brings the church into the
worship experience with her music choices
and leadership. As both the church
broadcast and web cast begin, listeners look
forward to Jana's pleasing worship
leadership. Jana's husband, James is a
maintenance supervisor with the Cocke County
School system.

Cheryl
Presnell has
played the beautiful black mahogany baby
grand piano since 1985. Her accompaniment
style of playing ranges from classical to
traditional to choruses; and she looks
forward to learning and performing new
music. She sings solos as special music and
provides a trained high soprano voice for
the choir when they are using taped music
tracs. Cheryl's background music can be
heard as Pastor Mooty begins the invocation
at the conclusion of the Sunday sermons;
with the music being chosen after hearing
the sermon. Jack, Cheryl's husband is
retired from a supervisory position at
Sonoco Paper Products, Inc.

Frances Livesay
was playing the piano when Brother Tom, who was
looking for a local church home, first listened
in to the radio broadcast as he was traveling to
a preaching assignment one Sunday morning. Her
music style immediately attracted Tom and ‘Nita
to begin visiting West End Baptist Church; and
she presently serves the church as assistant for
both pianist and organist. When not playing for
any one of the services, Frances sings in the
choir. She is married to Gene Livesay, who has
no music ability at all – except to listen,
enjoy, and be blessed by the beautiful music of
West End.

Omega
Jackson has been a
member of West End Baptist Church since
1948; and has played the church organ
for many of those years. The church enjoys
her southern gospel style music mini concert
between Sunday school and the morning
worship service. Omega teaches music in her
home and leads her students to perform in an
annual concert in the church "chapel" each
year.

Charlie Ownby is a newer
member of the church; and has fit in quite
nicely by playing lead guitar during the
mini concert and as an accompanist for the
congregational singing. He is a long-time
guitarist, playing gospel music in various
fund-raisers for charities in the area. He
and his wife, Irene sing with their son,
Lynn as the Ownby Trio. Charlie serves in a
maintenance capacity with the Jefferson
County School System.
Lynn Ownby plays the bass
guitar and keeps the rhythm going in the
congregation singing. Lynn is the classic
example of the young man who "turned out
right" as he loves his church and is
faithful at every service that his new
position as an EMT with the Cocke County
Ambulance Service will allow him. He can
also play piano and sing bass with the Ownby
Trio. He and his dad, Charlie play in the
mini concerts between Sunday school and
church.
Jerry Thomas began
playing the rhythm drum at West End when he
and his wife, Martha joined . His soft
strokes with drum brushes lend a pleasing
music style to the congregation and special
music of West End. Jerry is a deacon
and Martha is a former secretary to the
church.
